About Dr. Siara Richardson-Springer

Dr. Siara Richardson-Springer joined our team at Harbor Animal Hospital as Medical Director after recently moving from Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Richardson-Springer was born in Chicago, Illinois but, as a child of a military family, she moved around often. The army brat lifestyle shaped her character; instilling in her the values of discipline, resiliency, and adaptation. Her military upbringing also birthed her love for travel and adventure. It was very early in her elementary years when she declared that she wanted to be a veterinarian. Since then, it has been her life’s work to achieve that goal and to provide compassionate quality care to her patients.

Dr. Richardson-Springer completed a duel degree program from the University of Kentucky, earning bachelor’s degrees in both Animal Science Pre-veterinary medicine and Biology Pre-medicine. After completing her undergraduate studies, she worked in Washington, D.C. as a clinical pathology technician for a bustling metropolitan small animal hospital. She then attended Auburn University to obtain her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After veterinary school, Dr. Richardson-Springer performed a small animal medicine and surgery internship with BluePearl Veterinary Partners of New York before entering the work force as an emergency veterinarian.

Dr. Richardson-Springer enjoys the unpredictability and fast pace of emergency medicine and has special interest in critically ill patient care. She understands that a pet emergency can be very scary and she strives to help you and your family through these challenging times. She also has an appreciation for the importance of preventative care. During her years in emergency medicine she realized that many emergent heath issues could be mitigated with proper education and consistent health screening. With this realization, she was encouraged to split her time between emergency medicine and general practice. Up until her relocation to California, Dr. Richardson-Springer continued both emergency work at a 24 hour facility and also worked full time at a small animal general practice in the heart of Brooklyn. There, she fostered her love for surgery and internal medicine.

In her role as Medical Director of Harbor Animal Hospital, she aims to use her previous combined experiences to help you and your pets through a preventative approach. However, if your pet does have a medical emergency, she is more than equipped to help with diagnosis, stabilization, and/or directing next appropriate steps for best possible outcomes. She excels in articulating your pet’s medical conditions in a way that you can understand and strives for a collaborative effort in order to ensure that we can make the best possible plan for your pet’s wellbeing together.

Outside of work, Dr. Richardson-Springer enjoys scouring antique stores for unique teapots, dancing, cooking, and reading. Most of all, she loves spending time with her son and husband. She is very excited to begin exploring the City of Angels and becoming a part of the community.
