This is the story of the Harbor Animal Hospital deer as we were told when we bought the practice in 1993….
Many years ago Dr. Rollin Smith, the original veterinarian at Harbor Animal Hospital, went on a hunting trip. Eventually, he spotted and killed a deer, as hunters usually do. Afterwards, he thought about it and became very upset about what he had done. As a veterinarian, hunting and killing this deer went against everything he believed in. So, as a reminder to never harm another animal, he purchased and installed a plaster deer in front of the hospital. Unfortunately, after 25 years of greeting our clients as they entered the practice, our deer was in very bad shape, and not strong enough for another face-lift. He was removed last week and replaced with beautiful flowers to honor his and Dr. Smith’s memory.
