Pain Management

The old adage that animals do not feel pain the way we do is simply not true. The chronic pain of conditions such as arthritis or vertebral disk (back) disease can have a significant negative impact on a pet’s quality of life. Acute pain from trauma or surgery can be life threatening or delay recovery and healing. The doctors and staff at Harbor Animal Hospital take pain control and monitoring very seriously. Pain control following surgery is not an option, it is a necessity.

Pain management is one of the most rapidly advancing areas of veterinary medicine. Our surgical patients receive the latest in multi-modal pain control including pre-operative, intra-operative and post operative pain medications. For our older patients with chronic pain we can offer a variety and combination of new and “rediscovered” older medications that can significantly ease their aches and pains so they can continue to be active and have a good quality of life. We would be pleased to discuss the options available to you and your pet under any of the above circumstances.
