Kitten wellness focuses on getting you and your new family member started on a preventive care program to benefit your kitten throughout his/her life. Included in these services are a series of examinations and vaccinations including panleukopenia (distemper), leukemia, and rabies. All new kittens will be screened for the feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency viruses. This is done by taking a small blood sample and running the test in our own laboratory so you have results right away. In addition, your kitten will be tested for worms and be treated for the most common intestinal worm found in kittens – roundworms. Roundworms can cause your kitten to vomit and / or experience diarrhea; however, it is possible for your kitten to have roundworms and not show any signs of harboring the worms. A microscopic fecal examination will allow us to evaluate the presence of these worms. The examination will also look for other types of worms that can affect your kitten and will be treated with the appropriate medications. We will also help you with controlling fleas and preventing heartworm disease in your kitten. For a small kitten, fleas can be especially dangerous and must be controlled for your kitten’s safety. We will also address nutrition and any behavior issues you may have to help you and your kitten get off to a great start together!
